Ford Transit pats control unit is dead

Postby Tpaynter » Tue Jan 21, 2020 9:38 am

I have a problem my pats control unit is dead... Have found some with the same long number in yellow. But can't find any with the shorter number underneath.

What does the numbers mean

Does it matter about the short number?

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

What makes you think it is dead? Many readers won't communicate with accessory units.

The unit is making a horrible fast clicking and high pitched noise. Have taken the cover off and it seems to be coming from a relay

The van is a 1997 transit 230 with an EPIC fuel pump. Image

Also struggling to find a ECU port in the van, as there are loads of old electronic plug ins scattered around the van, as it used to be used as a disabled bus back in the day.

I don't even know what I'm looking for, I read that sometimes there under the bonnet.

Thanks for helping me out and replying!

My next question was to be is it a EPIC TD? You will need either, Lucas Laser, Ford FDS, or a official early version of Ford IDS and the appropriate connector plug.

The port itself is in the fuse box, behind the spare fuse carrier.

Is it making the noise permenantly, or only at certain times or operations?

Thanks for that I'll have a look!

Yeah it only happens when I turn the key and it doesn't turn the engine. It did work but make a slimmer notice but less frequent. And now it's extreme noise and it doesn't turn over the engine.

Search the part number, Transit, Escort, Fiesta all use that same unit so as the numbers match I think you should be ok.

Thanks chuggy, is the pat number the short number or the long one on the unit?

the part number is the one, but it can be many variations and still work
95FG - 19A366 - AF
9 is the year it was made
FG is the vehicle model
G is the part of FMC responsible for the design

19A366 is the actual module internal design

AF is the software level it left the factory with - if its had an update it will be wrong and you should put a new sticker on it - but its irrelevant
So you can ignore the 9 and they all will have the G

if it has the 19A366 and a different number in the 5F the so long as the physical shape will fit and the plugs are the same it will be the same

to see this search ebXX for ABS 24c05 and you will see the aluminium block is the same on every one no matter what the plastic part is for.

The number you are asking about from memory is a cypher of the key numbers programmed to it
