At a pinch, you could replace the rear battery (which is the starter battery) so it should at least run, but if you leave the second one in there for too long afterwards, it will shorten the life of the new battery.

Do the central locking and interior lights all work properly?

If it’s a standard Ford twin battery set up they are both the same type of battery they don’t have a Leasure type battery when you switch on the ignition a relay Connect the two batteries together for starting and while running if one battery is a dud it will pull the other battery down

A car battery may not have enough grunt to start the engine, but all you can do is fit it/them and see if it will.

Make sure that the battery terminals are the right way round, as they're opposite on some batteries :)

I assume you mean the tachograph if it’s like my mk8 it will have kilometres the van has done one it and the van dash may not have the mileage on it only the trip meter so you will need it working for the mot not sure if it can fail for not having I work in tachograph fitted or not been able to read the mileage on the vehicle is done .with mine being a x Minibus I had to wait till the logbook was classified as a motor caravan to have the 62 mph speed limiter and the tachograph Removed and the mileage done put back on the dash done at local Ford dealership .
Some Tachographs if the backup battery inside it is flat if it it loses its power feed it can kill it I sold mine so before I removed it I fitted a new battery so it would be ok to sell if you’re not going to try and sell it just disconnect it after the test

I’d go for it as for removing the tachograph mine had the same type of removing tools for radio the two bent wire type that’s been used on Fords for years I just then unplugged mine and removed the fuse and left the wiring and sender in the gearbox if the van mileage is recorded on the van dash then should be ok as I say mine had to go on a computer to have it put on to the dash readout.
