Power problem.

Postby 4Rossi6 » Sat Aug 22, 2020 2:43 pm

Hi all, new here so be gentle please :D

Just collected our Transit based motor home and on the way home it lost power. It was still drive-able but there was no throttle response past half way and there were no dash warning lights. Once I,d stopped I turned off the ignition and switched it back on, so I know the warning lights are working.

I’ve read elsewhere that this model (2016) suffered with throttle body problems, but Ford refused to officially call it a recall.

Does this sound like that sort of problem?

Is it safe to drive without doing any engine damage as I have to try and get it to a dealer for repairs?

Typical, just as we’re about to go away for a week!

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

If it’s not put any warning message or lamps on,it’s a minor fault that resets with ignition off,
That said,it should have logged a dtc,and unless you get it code read anything else is just guessing.
Throttle body issues are news to me.

Thanks for the reply.

I just tried it out, drove perfectly with no problems. After about a mile I noticed that the temperature was already in it’s normal place ( mid way on the gauge). I parked up and noticed that the fan was on which is unusual. All fluid levels are fine but they’ll be checked once more in the morning. Not sure what to think now.

Is this actually a 2016 van or did you just mean same model ?
Which engine 2.2 or 2.0 ?
Bit more info may help, how many miles has it done ?

Fan will run if you have aircon and it’s on,or if demister set to screen.

It’s a 2016 Transit cab with a motor home body, 2.2 I believe and 9.5k miles.

Temp gauge on these, moves to position really quick that’s normal, should sit bang half way constant then if no problems.

Will need code reading to diagnose correctly, the temp sensor in intercooler Reading incorrect was a fairly common issue, would trigger a MAF code, and reset with key off.
Boost pipe chafing through does similar but wouldn’t expect it at such low mileage.
Could even be turbo actuator or EGR sticking.
As you can see, without code reading it it’s an expensive guessing game...

I see what you mean...

I had someone suggest checking the air filter this morning as it’s stored on a farm when not in use. Checking for things like nests. However, opened up the filter box to find that the filter was wet. I was told that this occurs sometimes due to the scuttle plate drain holes getting blocked.

I’ll replace the filter as see what happens after that.

Thanks for your help Frag, much appreciated. :D

Keep an eye on the filter then, problem is when they get wet, they break up and get sucked into turbo damaging impeller...
Scuttle drains blocked,or scuttle not being fully clipped onto bottom of screen will let water track onto air box top.
