engine not revving properly

Postby smokin gun » Thu Sep 03, 2020 9:34 pm

Hi Guys.
My mk 7 rwd has just had the engine taken out to replace the egr valve (the bolts were rounded so the engine had to come out)which was done I had a good quality valve fitted back in.
Got the engine back in and running but it seems to be down on power and still gives a puff of black smoke now and again.
Any ideas ? running out of patience.

Im not sure what the engine code is ill check tomorrow.
The injectors werent touched.
Basically a disconnect from gearbox and lift out and back in
I put a new flexy joint on the exhaust that was all we done put the engine back in started 1st time drives fine but lacking power and top speed.
Could it be an air lock in the fuel line where we disconnected it ?.

Yep, definitely need to get the codes read...will hopefully give an idea of any issues.

When was the fuel filter last replaced..?? When were the pump, pilot and injector learns done last..??

The mechanic cleared all the codes.
The turbo air vacuum was seized.
Took the adjustable arm off and freed it off with release agent.
Running a lot better but still smoking.
The speedo is not working and the mechanic has found a speed sensor fault which effects the running.
The saga continues.
Next step is phone the scrappy what a piece of junk .

Turbo is actuated by boost pressure not vacuum on the 100ps and 115ps....140ps has electronic turbo actuator.

Smoke could be several different things, poorly injectors etc.. When was the fuel filter last replaced.....When were the pump, pilot and injector learns last done.??

Speedo is run by the ABS sensors, if you have one or more ABS sensors not working you should have a fault code/light and/or ABS/ESP light...Needs sorted.

Hi Guys.
Got the codes read.
The egr valve is stuck open.
speed sensor on abs (speedo failure ?)
My question is regarding the egr valve which i bought new (£130) can this be tested either in its position or when removed ?.
Apparently the supplier will only sell me another one for £130 and they will send the new (faulty one ?) away for analysis and they would issue a refund if they find it to be faulty.
Any inspiration out there !

Can you hear the EGR valve do it's "self cleaning" thing when you shut the engine down..?? Sounds a little like a small hacksaw.

A poor connection or break in the EGR loom can give similar symptoms.

Speedo signal is taken from ABS sensor.
