Transits to stay clear of

Postby Shanedorey » Tue Nov 10, 2020 7:11 am

Hi guys so I have recently found out the hard way that 1999 Transits are huge headaches in the fact the fuel pumps and its parts are almost impossible to find. I have decided to sell the one I have now and go on the hunt for another model. What ones should I stay clear of and what ones have parts still easily available? Thanks

1999=mk 5.
Parts are scarce/hard to find?

I'd best not get one of those then

Is it a blue one.
Someone told me blue vans cause no end of bother and cost more to insure as they go faster than the other colours.

In fairness, the guy lives in Australia. What's the chances of getting a full range of parts for a 20 year old import from the other side of the world?

Hey yeah I'm in Australia and was an absolute nightmare trying to source an epic pump. I finally found a decent one after nearly 2 weeks of soild researching. I'm now wondering what other parts are going to be an issue to find if anything else goes wrong for this model? If I knew I could get parts shipped from overseas then not so bad but over here all you are met with is this is discontinued and no one wants anything to do with it.

A couple of things to bear in mind are that:-

1/ Not all 1999 Transits are fitted with an EPIC pump, the non-turbo ones have Bosch pumps

2/ Mark 5 Transits of any year (1995-2000) could all potentially be fitted with an EPIC pump, but only the turbocharged ones. Any turbo, manual gearbox, models can be converted to a Bosch pump.

Mine is a turbo so yeah had an epic. Mine is also an auto so can't convert it. I have a recon epic pump now with a 12 month warranty on the pump and any worked needed on it so I'm happy with that. Just contemplating how difficult other things will be if they go wrong. I am wanting to convert it to a camper but don't want to spend anymore money into that if as soon as something happens it's going to be game over because parts are just going to be too hard to get here. When my pump went I kept getting told it needs to go to the scrap heap. I just bought it and thought you have to be kidding its just a fuel pump.
