Immobilising my van

Anyone know of a good way to immobilise a new tranny without removing anything major. I just want to get home, immobilise the van, lock it up and go to bed without worrying that someone is gonna get it started and nick it. My dad used to pop the bonnet, tinker around for 10 seconds and that was the van dead until the following morning when he revered the process.

What ways do you know, come on, share all.

He probably diconnected the fuel solenoid valve on the injector pump, but I'm not familiar with the new tranny and unsure if this can be done?

Somebody will know I'm sure ?

lee if you have the new type van ,you havent got much to worry about ,as they would have to be real pro,s to get that going and if they wanted it that much you wont stop them! they will just tow it away!

so the latest version of the tranny is a hard one to nick then, phew thats good news.

I was talking to a locksmith once without mentioning transits! - he said the harest vehicles to start were all the new fords including the transits!!!
still said he could get into them no probs! - just couldnt get them started!!

my insurance states factory fitted imob on my 99 van as thatcham cat 2, is this fairly secure then?

thatcham catogarised alarms/imobilisers are the ones insurance companies insist on recognising and giving discounts for ... read into this what you will

if you see someone hanging around your van with a laptop and some leads hes probably going to nick it

Take the stering wheel off and put it in your house! Then, if you see somebody loitering about with a steering wheel up thier jumper, you know what they are up to, steering wheel not a common accsessory when going out for a walk...............

is that what u do then fred.take the steering wheel off.....new current shape transit can be broken into and after a few minutes the immobilser can be unlocked so the van can be driven (BUT I AM NOT SAYING HOW THIS CAN BE DONE ON HERE)but anyone who has worked for fords or works for them know how to do this... ..the factory one will stop most car thieves another way is for a lock that fits over the steering wheel or one that locks the gearstick into reverse gear.or a fuel tap immobilser that fits inline on the fuel line.

Not in this country, but have been known to lock the steering wheel in the back when alone in a foriegn country!

I was thinking the same thing Geoff, if it was that easy it wouldn't be Cat 2 approved.

we often have 2000 onwards Transits in cat "b" for breaking with no keys and a friend of mine works for the manufacturer of these fine vehicles and we call him out to get them started and he has to bring a proper key programer with lead to plug into the vehicle to run them up, if there was an easier way he would most definitely know about it,there is definitely no "quick fix" to start up new shape Transits.

surely you can't take off the new steering wheels because of the airbag and even if you could what hassle everyday...........
