Squishy brakes on a MK7 Motorhome..?

Postby BairStrokes » Fri Mar 26, 2021 10:07 am

Hello the forum , I have a 10 year old FWD MK7 Motorhome with 27k on the clock. We have only had it 4 months. Its not driven regularly . Anyhow started it up yesterday and noticed the brakes were VERY spongy with a squishy sound. A few pumps on the brake and they did firm up but soon the pedal went back down. I have searched the forum and there is some great help on here but very spread out. can some one point me in the direction of a post that covers ALL possibilities in just what may be the problem. thanks in advance.

Also check for any fluid leaks underneath.

Check the reservoir, they often look full but can deceive. There's an inner reservoir for the clutch which makes it look ok.

My brakes on my 2010 camper was soft and I had a sticking handbrake, I used to get underneath and give it a Tap with a hammer and spray the handbrake springs with wd40, but last week I replaced the callipers on the rear, only the one was sticking but I thought the other probably won’t be far behindnew pads, cleaned up the sliders and greased and give them a good bleeding and now they stop pretty good, and there is very little travel in the pedal.

I don’t think when they like being parked up for long periods and brake fluid does deteriorate, even in winter I try to take my camper for a spin at least once week.

My pedal feel horrable for the first few miles till the rust cleans off the discs (it's parked for months at a time at the mo), i don't get any noises but the pedal feels soft at the top for a while :?
