Leak off pipe perished. Mk7

Hi, My van conked out ( made noises like she was running out of diesel, before stalling)

When I tried starting (she turns over, but won’t fire up) I discovered a Leak off pipe has perished.

Is it possible for me to temporarily patch the nylon return pipe with silicone tape? ( just to get her moving)

And if that patch works, what’s the best (simplest way) to get the air out of the system?
