Does my auto start/stop need to be activated?

Postby Matttjuk » Wed Apr 14, 2021 10:16 pm

Hello

I've got a 14 plate tourneo custom and it has the auto start/stop button on the right of the dash but it doesn't appear to do anything?

The button itself lights up when pressed and it has the eco readings when you scroll through the trip computer.

The A with a circle round it lights up when you put the ignition on but that's the only time when it does?

Am I missing something?

Cheers

Is the van new to you? If not, has it ever worked? The full info is key if you’re going to get useful answers.

I think that stop-start Customs need to have twin EFB type batteries, and from my experience (on my car) they need to be in good condition, and fully charged.
If the batteries are the original Ford items, they're probably too old and tired to work properly as stop-start, and if you only do short runs, they may not be charged enough to work either.
It also only works when out of gear, and with the clutch disengaged, if it's a manual. Pressing the clutch down re-starts the engine, so if you sit stationary still in gear, it will never work.

The switch only turns it off, otherwise it's always on.

Cheers for replies, tbh it is used for short journeys currently, perhaps I need to do a lap of the m25

TBH it's a ridiculous idea that doesn't really work because a lot of vehicles will only be used for short runs, so the battery is never going to be charged enough to perform several stop-starts when getting stuck in a queue of slow moving traffic. Mine sometimes will work a couple of times after a bit of a run, and the engine is hot, and then doesn't work again on the rest of the journey home.
It may be that the Custom with its twin batteries works better, but only if they are in tip top condition.

I did originally think that perhaps I only had one battery but checked earlier and there's definitely two

Both, by the looks of it, are original Ford batteries so they're 7 years old now.

I did a quick Euro Car Parts battery price check and for £500+ for both batteries, think ill live without it for now!

ECP are probably the most expensive battery supplier known to man :!:

Try Tayna batteries or batterymegauk on ebay, who are more reasonable, but go for a brand such as Varta or Bosch, and make sure that you get like for like, and suitable for stop-start.

Having said all that, don't replace them if everything else is working OK, unless you're desperate for the SS to be working.

Yeah I know ECP are  was just after a quick ball park figure

I'll check out the options you suggested but everything appears to work as it should except the stop/start

Think I will live with it for now, maybe.....
