Mk7 PCM update

Postby alan1272 » Sat Apr 17, 2021 1:36 pm

Forgive me if this has been covered, i did search to no avail...

Is there a way to know if the PCM has been updated to the latest version (or which version)?

Background: '07 mk7 2.4 rwd lwb

I changed the injector seals and cam cover gasket to try to solve an oil leak and knocking noise, reset prv counter, ran pump learn and injector pilot learn. Van ran better and quieter for first 5 miles, felt loss of power/misfire at 2500rpm/55mph, powertrain light came on. Went home, read the codes.
P0089
P116E

The prv had been activated and was now showing the standard symptoms of being blown. Ran a pump learn again hut to no avail.

Is it just a case of PRV and update the PCM? Sensible to do SCV as well? Im loathed to send it to a garage as i haven't used one in 20 years but understand i probably cant do the pcm update with forscan. Im just surprised at 14 years old if the van hasnt been updated already.

Any help appreciated.

The scv is the main problem and yours is throwing p0089 which is the scv, usually there's no codes for it and it just keeps drifting.

The pcm update itself isn't life changing. Usually when you go to pcm update it says what it is and if there's an update. Generally there's 2 states. Original before March 2011 that had no anti stall function and then after that date which did have anti stall. You can press the clutch a few times and it should rev a little higher.

You will likely need new scv and prv and they should be genuine quality denso parts.

So check the prv and it'll be in bits.

Then replace both items and then reset the prv count and duration (x2) then fuel pump learn, then injector pilot learn and all is well.

I don't think the pcm update is a major issue personally but if you feel it should be done then you should get it done. :D

Thanks for the reply.
I did have a quick go at removing the prv but its in there pretty tight, I'll probably have to get the fuel rail off and in the vice.

You mention checking the pcm update, is that with forscan or IDS? As i dont have ids.

Is it ford dealer only for the prv/scv?

Thanks.

Pfjones do denso parts but any reputable diesel specialist should be able to supply them.

Just don't trust cheap eBay specials and never change the pressure sensor unless your absolutely sure it's gone as they are not known for failure, there's more issues after changing them than anything else.

+1

I'm not that familiar with forscan but I would think that it'll read the modules etc when it first identifies the vehicle, it should have a hardware id and software id for the pcm.
The original is on the sticker in the passenger door pillar.

They are mostly the same but the last 2 letters.

So 2006 on is something like 6c11-12A650-ab
2008 on us 8c11-12A650-ab
2010on Ac11

But if yours is 2007 it'll be the first but the forscan software id will either be the sticker of original or it'll be something later ie. Ac

I've got a PRV from the local main dealer, an eye watering £138!

Ordered a denso scv from onlinecarparts.co.uk, which is coming from germany and could be ages thanks to brexit.

Does anyone know if this one will fit the 2.4 engine? I'll send the other back if it ever arrives.

Genuine denso are best, we've had cheap items fail. Pf used to do denso ones but I don't know if that 1 is.

Its a gamble unless you buy from Ford. :(

I took the plunge and bought the scv from ford on saturday morning, £225 was a bit painful.
Fitted it and the new prv, reset count and duration, pump learn and pilot learn. Van is smoother and quieter than ever. Drove from north to south wales with no issues, so cheers for the help.

I'll attach some pictures of genuine ford scv and prv for comparison, if someone has one of questionable origin it might help.
