Cambelt failure

Postby D4VEB » Mon Jun 21, 2021 9:42 pm

Hi All, have just come across this forum so will be here to stay now
I’ve just replaced a broken cambelt on 3 year old custom eco blue.
It snapped at very low speed so hoping damage was to a minimum?
I’ve drained and stripped everything down and cleaned the sump etc

Locked the 2 camshafts in place and aligned the timing marks up on the crank and the middle shaft as per all the manuals etc i noticed there was a timing mark on the fuel pump pulley and the crank but couldn’t get these to line up??
I’ve since replaced all the belts, new cover new oil etc and rebuilt her up.

Bit ropey at first to start put that down to changing the fuel filter, she then fired up but is running on 3, could this be a timing issue with the fuel pump or could it be one of the lobes on the shafts twisted ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, this is my first one and I’m hoping the last! I have 5 more of these bloody vans

Cheers

Could have lifted/bent a valve or rocker maybe..?? Have you checked all the rockers etc..?? Done a compression check..??

I was thinking that but hoping not. I’ll do a compression test on it in the morning. I’m assuming you have to remove the injectors and test through the ports mate

Can do it through the glow plug holes too...if you have the relevant tools etc..

I have heard the camshaft lobes can move on the camshaft. Try this thread for a workshop manual. It's mk8 but same 2.0 Panther engine.
