2010 2.2 Duratorq

Postby SteveWalsh » Sat Jul 10, 2021 2:03 pm

Hi all
After a bit of info for a Engine I am rebuilding for a mate

2010, FWD 2.2 Duratorq.

I stripped the engine, It is having new piston rings, Head recon. etc and curing a lot of oil leaks along the way.

When I stripped it and removed Pistons / rods I checked for orientation markings and found on the big end, the caps are marked 'F' and didnt take much more notice, now I have come to refit them I am thinking the ' F' was facing towards the rear / exhaust side.

Logically I would have thought Forward, The numbers on the piston tops face the timing chain end if I fit them 'F' forward which is also logical
Do any of you know for sure which way they go.

Thanks
Steve

Just realised I made a mistake on the above post
The numbers on the piston face the same way as 'F' on the rod

Hi All

Found the info I needed, and for anybody that needs to know.

The 'F' Stamped on Big end and cap is nothing to do with Front, It is the class of rod and could have been K,L,M,E,F,or G. and should not be mixed.
There is a protrusion on the big end cap that faces the Timing Chain,
On my engine the 'F' and piston numbers all face the rear / Exhaust side. If it had been any other letter than F I wouldn't have queried my initial thought of which way they go.

On with the build

All the f letter as you said which is just a marking on one side off all the pistons and all markings should be on one side pointing to the timing end

Unless it's disappeared your full of sh*t that piston is the wrong way round

So don't take me for a mug as you did in your last post been doing these engine for a very long time and took photos to prove you wrong

I did not take you for a mug in any post, and thanks for the full of sh*t comment, the only ''f'' visible in the photo is because I highlighted it with chalk, All the others are barely visible without a bright light and magnifying glass.

All the Fs are facing exhaust side as they were when I stripped them out, The notches on the big end caps are all facing timing cover.
This engine is built and back on the road

Not in any of my posts did I write anything derogatory
