The Pinto engine is a very simple engine, cant think why they would turn it down to work on something more complicated
We have an engine reconditioner around here ..staffed by a lot of old school chaps in their 60's and 70's little bit further than you planned ..probably 70 miles

Name:North Wales Engine Center
Address:2 Eagles Farm Road
Postcode/City:LL28 5HA
Mochdre (just the other side of colwyn bay)
North Wales
Phone:01492 546257
Fax:01492 546257

had a few jobs done by them ...pinto unleaded head conversion, skimmed rover v8 heads and 3 angle valve seats re-cut ..and they were very reasonable and could not fault their work.

Also ......because of the limited numbers of people here who have this engine fitted ., perhaps you should look for some leads in a forum were the pinto engine is king ...like ford capri .. or ford cortina forum.

all the best.mark

If it hasn’t had regular oil change it could get the spray bar for the camshaft blocked and that will wear out the camshaft lobes and rocker fingers and could be your nosies and power lose .oil consumption worn valve stem seals or valve guides / piston / bore worn

There is a guy on the forum called Gasbo who has a pinto engined van who says he just got a replacement engine the cost was £1600 !!!
At that sort of money I would replace the pinto with a v6 cologne or get a zetec fitted , the pinto was rubbish in 1970 let alone now
Your van must be good or else you woundn't be thinking of replacing the engine but tell us what year the transit is for more advice
