Annoyingly I have the diagrams for most things - but not the engine management - whats the issue?

The engine turns but there is no spark from the coil to distributor, I had a breakdown where there was no power to the dash of ignition, after some work I found a live wire burnt out on the plug and socket to the ignition switch, repaired that and restored the power but now the engine turns over but no spark from the coil.

Had a auto electrician look at it and he thought the Bosch distributor was the cause, I got a refurbished distributor but it still wouldn’t give a spark, have now changed the ECU to a couple of spares I have plus a new coil, still won’t star. There is power to the coil on the positive side but run out of ideas now, hence why I was looking for a wiring chart.

The backstory is though that when the van broke down I let a guy take a look why I wasn’t in attendance and he used a portable power pack to run the starter motor for test, as it was dark no way of knowing if he has blown something else or been pulling the wiring about so possibly a man made fault I’m trying to chase down.

If you mean the wiring to the electronic ignition module then I have two different versions, one is Transit and one Sierra, not sure which is which, but the only real difference is the position of the brown earth, its on one end in one version and in the middle on the other, otherwise they are the same and either unit will work.
Also check it's not all rusty where the unit bolts on.

Version 1
brown = Earth
green = coil -ve
black/green = starter
black c= coil +ve
black/red = distributor plug
green/yellow = distributor plug

Version 2
green = coil -ve
black/green = starter
black = coil +ve
brown = earth
black/red = distributor plug
green/yellow = distributor plug

I had similar recently - a van with this setup stopped whilst driving. It turned over perfectly, had no spark and had power to the coil.It took me about 1.5hrs to find the fault - but I did have a working vehicle parked right next to it to check.

One of the small brown relays (marked 2V iirc) had failed, (top left of the fusebox by the drivers knee iirc) which meant no power to the ECU - hence no spark. I swapped it for the fog relay and it fired straight up. The ECU should have 2 pins which are live with the ignition on - this one had none. I believe there are also fuses marked 2V

Thanks to both Chug and Matt,

The wiring info is helpful and Matt you was right on the money, I pulled that Relay on the top left of the fusebox, it looked fine but by substituting it with another relay I now have a spark on the coil. The Haynes manual I have is a 86- 89 which covers the Pinto but the wiring chart does not show this relay present in the ignition system.

Every days a school day

Thanks

The fusebox guide that I have shows the relay top left as relay F and says main power. It doesn't show any relay or fuses maked 2V

Are you up and running again then?

The 86-89 system is very different to the mk4 system you have fitted!
