2015 Custom Brake Light not working

Postby horney » Tue Nov 02, 2021 7:52 pm

Looking for some info and advice on where to trace a problem with only the left hand rear brake light- all other lights on the cluster are working. Tried swapping light clusters over and it confirms there is a wiring issue/problem. The van is a 2015 Custom. Any idea where the wire splits to feed the Left and Right sides? The van is all paneled and carpeted but from what I can see it runs behind the passenger seat above the head rest.

Can anyone help me out?

Cheers

I've exactly the same problem with my 2015 custom, a real head scratcher :( I may have to give in soon as the MOT is due in a couple of weeks. I have been pulling the fairing apart checking the loom forward for damage and found nothing. The brake switch also checks out. From the haynes wiring diagram the power seems to come through the BCM, if that turns out to be the fault I may have to swap the real ale for water for a couple of years

Just a suggestion for a quick fix if MOT is looming, would it be worth running a wire across the top of the doors from the working light to the non-working light

Is the high level light working :?:

I have thought about doing that little trick and yes, the high level brake lights are working. If I did run a wire across from the working side, would the "brake bulb not working" warning on the console still come on when you first press the brakes? Because if doesn't I will give this a go!

I went ahead and tried this above with odd results. I ran the wire straight from the R/H brake light to the L/H side without disconnecting the L/H connector from the cluster. Low and behold the L/H brake light illuminates....for a couple of seconds and then goes out! However, release the brake pedal and press again and it comes on again for a couple seconds. and so on. Also the "brake light bulb not working" still comes on. :x

starting to think about opening the wallet

I hadn't factored in that you have a "bulb out" warning, so sadly, my workaround won't stop that happening. I'm not sure that this would be an MOT fail if the bulb was actually working, which it might do if you disconnect the original supply wire.

Just another idea, try disconnecting the wiring to the high level light, just in case a fault in that unit or wiring is stopping the low level light working

Sorry for the lateness of the conclusion to the brake light fault. Apparently it was just the BCU that required resetting. The garage used a snap on set up to sort it. All works sweet now. :D
