the main reason was the head was cracked at the back the exhaust manifold was cracked and the valve seals had gone + there was slight trace of water in oil

since i have changed it it dont idle very high sort of hunting? :?

You swapped the head then :?: where did you get the replacement head from :?:
If you are getting blue smoke there may be oil getting into the combustion chamber - do you have any way of doing a compression test :?:
im just thinking things related to the job you have done was the turbo totally ok before you started :?:

yes i swapped the head with a brand new one i got it from a guy who used to run a fleet of mk5 td's and changed to mk6's so i know its the right one! unfortunately no way of doing a compression test :( just had a look now with a torch there seems to be a small amount of oil getting into the throttle housing?from the turbo and up into intake manifold

Sounds like the turbo to me, must just be coincidence that it went when you changed the head.

just a thought  and this needs confiming by someone who knows :D
can you run it without the turbo on (fit a normal exhaust manifold) - just to test it - would that tell you anything :?: :?

you didnt drop the turbo when you took it off did you?

no i didnt drop the turbo it might be possible to run a normal exhaust to test it bu t there is 2 holes that will need blocking up, the oil feed from sump to turbo and the return pipe to the block also ther are a couple of rubber pipes that go to wastegate etc ? dont know what to do with them?

hardly any blue smoke now just loads of grey also there is a weird noise coming from the lift pump could this be knackered?? also i drove it for 60 miles yesterday the power gradually increased but not to what it was it is still idling very rough! it is only idling at about 600rpm it should be about 900rpm

it could be running weak. pump timing out a tad when you put the belt back on. whiteish smoke usualy a sign of running weak.

is it using oil or water up, more than normal.
