Did a quick search to get started, not sure how useful the advice is but they are saying common problem and one of the batteries. I've no experience with bad sensors. seems odd there is no other sensor specific info. possibly sensor fault codes would come up if this issue is resolved .

viewtopic.php?t=172240

found through Google. not that many posts here

https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3A ... rg+p0642+&

is there any history the seller told you about ti narrow it down perhaps?

an idea to physically check wiring to various sensors although am wondering g if pcm itself could be at fault ( one of the thingsi read as a possibility, but for
another vehicke)

I would want to see the codes myself if I were you . I.ebuy a forscan elm 327 hardware ( cheap on ebay) less than£20 and using the free forscan software. it may well not give you any more info though I guess.

Twin batteries..?? If so, check the front one...and get it properly load tested.

Thanks for the reply guys. I cleared the other code that was in at the start but it has come back again. So I have P0642 and 1409 EGR vacuum reg circuit, still not starting. Possibly related to PCM?

Thanks for the reply guys. I cleared the other code that was in at the start but it has come back again. So I have P0642 and 1409 EGR vacuum reg circuit, still not starting. Possibly related to PCM? And just the one battery behind the seat.

What code reader was used..?? Mk7 EGR's don't have a vacuum circuit, they are electronic.

pretty sure the battery nearest the front. Back one is for starter and front for the rest.

Just to update on the issue I had. It was a faulty EGR valve. Once I disconnected the EGR it started on the key. Renewed the valve and Bobs your uncle. Thanks for your advice along the way guys
