2001 VH timing issue

Postby 2001VHTransit » Sat Jun 25, 2022 4:33 am

Hi all,
I just had some new injectors put into my transit, and now it's making an all too familiar knocking sound. In the past I've had the timing solenoid changed on the diesel pump because it was making a similar knocking sound with reduced power.

The new noise is only evident following the injector install. So I'm wondering if A) the timing solenoid is playing up again coincidentally or B) the mechanic didn't recalibrate/teach the diesel pump after altering the fuel system?

Any ideas ? Does the Ford IDS tool allow the user to recalibrate the fuel pump?

It's a 2001 VH, 2.4l diesel RWD mid

Thanks ,
Ethan

Assuming it's a TDDi..??
Were the correct part number injectors fitted for your PS engine..?? There are several injector part numbers depending on what engine you have. Is it a 75, 90, 115, 120 or 125ps..?? They also come with 2 different fuel pumps, VP-30 Or VP-44.
It is ideed possible for the timing solenoid to be faulty. Mk6 TDDi pumps don't have a recalibrate or "teach/learn" as such.
Have you had the codes read..?? If so, what were they..??

Never had to do it myself, but I seem to remember that TDDi injectors have to be coded in using Forscan or IDS. They will work without, but will run like a bucket of bolts (so I believe)

I can't imagine that anyone calling himself a mechanic wouldn't have done this when fitting the injectors :?

Mk6 TDCi injectors need coding, but l didn't think TDDi injectors need coding...??

Thanks for your responses.
I believe it's the TDdi (D4FA) as there are no sockets/wires at each individual injector. VP44 pump.
I was assured by the Bosch dealer that the injectors matched the VIN. I'll get the codes read tomorrow.

Hopefully it's a matter of the mechanic not coding the injectors then ... Is it something that can be done after the injectors are installed? I guess not if it's TDdi

Thanks again for your time .

Looks like the Delphi DS tool has the programming function. I'd guess that the mechanic didn't even bother/have the appropriate computer for the job. I'll check back tomorrow

You are, of course, quite right M'lord, I'm getting my Ci's and Di's mixed up

I've sold you a dummy (me)

Only the pump needs coding on a Tddi, and if it wasn't done, it wouldn't run at all
