battery charge

Postby schott999 » Mon Aug 15, 2022 4:23 pm

hi lads. recently taken my battery out to charge and when i replaced it ive noticed the radio will now only work when the ignition is on and not on the first click which it always did before, and the interior lights only come on with ignition and not when you open door as before, not much of an issue but what have i done?

Check if you have missed a wire off the positive terminal or put it onto the earth by mistake.

You don't say which van you have, but there may be two batteries, and the other one is dead

Yes you can but for 4 bolts and maybe the seat belt it’s a lot easier with mine having a swivel and no bulkhead I have to so I can drop it backwards and leave the belt on.

If the voltage has dropped below about 10 volts, you'll probably need to replace it, especially if it's more than 3 years old. Modern batteries don't like being discharged, and, in my experience, rarely recover :(

It's fairly easy to remove the 4 bolts, or nuts, holding the seat in, and lift it onto the passenger seat whilst you work on the battery. You can leave the seat belt attached if you do it this way, and don't take the seat fully out
