Repair/fill old floor bolt holes

Postby Chefgage » Mon Aug 29, 2022 9:07 am

Good morning. The transit I have had a flooring system in it that has resulted in many small ish holes in the van floor. All are around 6mm to 8mm holes. What is the best way to fill these holes to prevent rust/rot happening.

I have searched but cannot find a good solution?

The best way would be to weld the holes up.

Won't a rubber plug laced with mastic/seam sealer do the job :?:

Aye but the op did ask the best way  even this should do the job as long as there is no rust around the holes.

Thanks for that. Looks like what I was after. Would like to not have to weld if possible. There is minimal rust around the holes, no rot. The rust can easily be cleaned up.

That filler should do it as it has fibre in it, just make sure the underside gets some protection on after filling.

bit dear for what you get - but upol Tiger-seal sealer is a fantastic product, dries like hard rubber ..and nearly impossible to peal off ...so just make a disk of metal ..clean up around the hole, so no grease ...slap it on like a sandwich ..it'll never fail .

better, less time consuming than welding

cheapest on ebay is about £10 with postage - note: tubes a re around half the size of normal mastic /silicone tubes

all the best..mark

What should I be putting on the underside, more of the product?

Underseal, stone chip, seem sealer it’s up to you, just something to stop any moisture/salt ect getting into the repair, on my old van I painted the underside yearly with hammerite to hold the rust at bay.

Do you Reckon the big boy stuff would seal a hole from a diesel heater. The hole is about 5" in diameter.

Might be a wee bit big that, I’d be tempted to do what metalworker said for that
