Battery light on dash

Postby jacky » Tue Nov 15, 2022 10:22 pm

Evening,
Tonight when coming home from work my battery light came on.

Checked the voltage and got these readings:

Engine off :12.3v
Running No Lights: 12.14v
Running with Lights: 11.89v
Running with lights, radio, heater: 11.70v

Is this a sign the alternator has gone?

Thanks
jacky

From looking at those voltages, yes, it's had it :(

Most probably just voltage regulator/brushes to change

no ..if using ......if you charge the battery overnight ..may give you 10 miles or so in daylight ..after that all sorts start happening ....first you loose your dashboard display ..rev counter stops working ...then other items fail to switch on: indictors lights etc
if it was petrol it would grind to a halt in 10 miles

so be careful ..10 miles in daylight only! after that things begin to pack up which may leave you stranded.

all the best...mark
