Drag link bushes

Postby bov783 » Fri Nov 18, 2022 9:14 pm

Hi all
I’m trying to get the bottom bush through the hole in the front suspension on a Mk5.
I have tried everything but just won’t go through.
Any tips. Tried heating them. Using a jubilee clip to compress them but no good !!
Any help much appreciated!!
Regards
Phil

I cut a piece of sheet steel about 3 or 4 inches square and rolled it into a tube round a broom handle, stuck a couple of jubilee clips around the outside, and squeezed the bush up inside it and then pulled it through the arm with a bit of threaded bar and some nuts n washers and fairy washo liquid, still a bit of a job, but like you I had tried lots of other methods.

Thanks for this. I did think of this but thought there must be an easier way.
I did try and push the bush into a socket with the same diameter as the hole. Could not
Get them in on the bench using a vice and jubilee clip so no chance under the van!!
Will see how this goes
Many thanks
