Help. Transit lost power won’t start. Timing chain?

Good evening.

I’ve come to search for a bit of help. I have a transit 2017 lwb. When driving last week at 70 it cut out and was limped onto the hard shoulder, the van wouldn’t start.

It was recovered back and I got the auto electrician to take a look, he said it was cam position sensor one.
I replaced the sensor and still no joy. When I’ve cleared the fault as soon as it cranks the cam sensor fault comes back up. He mentioned there is two cam sensors on them, front and back. I can only find one (top right of engine)

The auto electrician mentioned that it can bring this fault up when the belt goes or it jumps.

Is this correct?

I spoke to the local engine Refurb guys and they said to take the engine to them. But I’d like to know if it’s a contact engine or if these are salvageable if the belts jump? It’s done about 130k and has been serviced every 12 months since new (not at ford)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which engine do you have...?? 2.0 Euro-6..??

If so, it has a belt not a chain.

Yes 2.0ltr euro 6.

Is there any clearance when they go or do the valves take the hit? I’ll have to get the cover off and have a look what’s going on. Is it right that the cam sensor fault would be shown if the belt had gone?

One of the symptoms of belt failure without even opening the bonnet to find out. sometimes can be: engine turns over very fast ..faster than usual, when you attempt to start it. as some of the valves will be open and it will have no compression on those cylinders .

note: this is not something you should do to diagnose the issue ..but something that you may have noticed whist going through the stages you've already mentioned.

if you have a car or van that starts on the button ...then you'll never know the difference,.
