How to remove the lock barrel on a ford transit mk6/mk7

Postby wooolfos » Mon Dec 19, 2022 6:39 pm

Good evening to all
At the ford dealership, they charged me 884€ to change the lock and a new remote key, so I decided to change it myself.
But I can't get the cylinder out.
I looked at the videos on youtube, I also saw a post here, I have come to the conclusion that I need to press the button shown in the photo.
First to write that the key is not working to the left (anticlock), i can't unlock the car, so i leave it unlocked.

1. First I removed the safety of the barrel.
2.I poured a lot of wd-40 and tried to push the button with a screwdriver, it won't go in, very little.
3.I hit it in a sensible way with a hammer and screwdriver, same thing again.

It is not pressed in any position the key is in the lock.

I disconnected the battery, because when I turn the key to the right (clock) it turns back automatically.

1.Are you sure this is the button to push in?
2.Is it the fault of the key that does not work on the left?
3.Maybe I should hit it harder with the hammer?

The pin goes in when you unlock with the(correct) key and then you lock. If I remember, you unlock so far and push the pin then release the key which holds the pin in and allows you to pull the barrel out, after you've removed the retaining plate etc.

Even using this method it can be a bit of a pain.
There should be a fresh tutorial on the how to section of the forum.it's been a long time since I did it.

If I remember correctly, the only way to remove the barrel, when the key is jammed in it, is to drill down the side of the key, to undercut the pin.

The key is not stucked in the barrel, it can't unlock the door, only can lock it, but i think the final solution it to cut the barell with a Grinder and change the lock and barell.

The key needs to be held in the unlocked position and then press the button (button may need a hammer coz they seize), but if you can't get it to the unlock position then you will have to cut it off.

Ι'll try but i think since it doesn't unlock it can't go to the right position to get the pin in, so i'm getting the angle grinder ready now.

I finally cut the cylinder with a hand hacksaw, from the outside, after I had removed the safety from the inside and pushed it out as far as it would go, to give me space to cut it.
Very eazy, i changed the lock and the cylinder.
