Scanner advice please

Hi
2014 2.2 transit custom campervan
The van currently has a problem with the DPF and a faulty/stuffed up EGR valve.
It is going into the garage for a Terra Clean + diagnostics next Wednesday.
The van only gets short journeys most of the time but does some long journeys in the summer.
The handbook says that you can initiate a DPF clean but I can't seem to work out how this is done as when I follow the procedure nothing happens.
I am slowly learning about the DPF system and it appears that some scanners allow you to initiate a DPF clean.
I am looking for advice on the best scanner/s that will do this job.

Bought an iCarsoft CR Pro+ as I need to access several vehicles.
Fixed my daughters VW Transporter after plugging in the scanner (faulty Maf sensor).
As for my van, took it in for a terra clean and all seems to be going well. Plugged in the scanner and there are no codes at the moment.

Does your van currently have any fault lights on..?? Some scanners don't cope with the Transit protocols well....which is why we recommend the use of Forscan and a modified ELM-327, we know they work.

tunnelrat's ELM is the way to go like Knobby said, contacted many obd sellers before i bought this ELM, and they all werent 100% certain it would run on my Transit....this one does!!

No, there are no fault lights on or codes at the moment, the iCarsoft scanner seems to be able to function ok on the transit custom and certainly reads a lot more info than my previous generic code reader.
I'm still learning how to get the best out of it so work in progress

You don't have to have a fault light on to have a fault code/s stored. As mentioned, some scanners don't cope with the Transit protocols well...and some can give incorrect codes or miss them altogether. We've learnt over the years what works and what doesn't.
