Fuel reading incorrect

I have a 2015 290 Transit Custom, the fuel gauge and display are giving me incorrect readings, fuel gauge reads high and the fuel per mile display go up not down when driving any idea. Sender or display faulty??

The display gets it's info from the sender via the PCM, so I'd susppect the sender is not well.

Diagnostic scanner...IDS or Forscan. Forscan is our "got to" and will tell you pretty much anything related to diagnostics/testing/programming etc on your Transit.

OK had the fuel sender changed when the van went in for a service so the fuel gauge reads correctly now, the only thing that still doesn't work correctly is the display? it still adds fuel miles instead of subtracting fuel miles is there something else that needs to be changed.

I may not be explaining my problem correctly the fuel gauge now go's down but the fuel display miles go's up so the further you drive the more fuel display mile are recorded. IE if I fill the van up and the gauge reads full the fuel miles are say 400 if I drive for a week and the fuel gauge says go's down to 3/4 full? the fuel miles show 420??? left??? in the tank . hope that helps.

It's because the fuel computer constantly re-calculates the miles to empty, based on your driving style i.e. heavy or light right foot, and whether you do short or long runs.
After a few tankfulls, if you constantly improve on the projected figure, it will increase the estimate to a more realistic figure when you fill up, that's if you don't reset it to zero every time.

Try going through the settings in the instrument cluster,and resetting everything you can.
ALL trip / distance meters and counters.
