Rode van with no oil

Postby Broomlagoon » Thu Feb 02, 2023 6:35 pm

Good day guys , I lm actually a deaf bloke so never catch a problem in time , it sucks
But some problems are just forgotten maintenance , guilty here

So I didn’t check oil for about 6 months , I know , but I got lazy van just before this Toyota hi ace never ever took a drop extra , only service and yearly mots

So I had a friend get a lift and tell me there was a noise coming from the engine , five minutes later the turbo power went but was still driving ( low speeds in town) never knew it was a blown turbo at the time
So I road it for another day Town 15min as no other van
Then it belched lots of back smoke on the way to the mechanic, got there they found out it was no oil said that’s it to the specialist . So when it had oil put in it stopped smoking as bad and I could get to the specialist he says whole motor will be cooked without looking

It was minimal mikes and all under 30 MH
Engine never overheated and still runs
It starts with a bit of smoke but once going in neutral in the driveway I haven’t driven it since

Long post .. is there sun easy way to see if engine is okay ? drain sump and see if there’s metal bits in it ?

If anyone’s can give a shout appreciate it

£2800 will be £1800 for a really cheap recon engine and £ 1000 labour.
