New front brake disc/pad fitting advice?

Any tips/precautions when doing my R reg 190's front brakes?

I'll be doing discs, pads and fluid. Anything else I should do?

discs will be a bugger to get off heat them up gently with a blow lap should come off a lot easier also some of the disc bolts could be a pain to get out i have snapped a few impact sockets trying to get disc bolts out!!

Is DOT 4 the right brake fluid to be using?

yes according to my owners handbook dot 4 is the correct fluid

I always soak the discs where they join the hub overnight, unscrew the hub bolts with the road wheel on the floor., then jack it up wack the disc off, clean the hub surface well then slightly put copper grease on the mating edge once re assembled check the disc for run out, ( MAKE SURE THE DISC RUNS LEVEL, NO WAVERING). JOB DONE.

I just did that job. My van has only done about 700miles since it was mot'd by the Police yet the discs were WAY below the ware limit. It's almost like they just wanted shot of it and would have passed anything! Bah!
Anyway the first disc took a LOT of hammering to remove it. I gave the second one a good dose of Plusgas and it just came off.
Remember to cover up the central hole (I used a piece of plastic and a rubber band) to prevent crap going down it while you're hammering.

That plusgas is the best penitrating oil on the market imo! well worth the extra cost over WD40 etc!!

Did it today... reckon the penetrant helped as the discs came off OK with a big hammer. Calipers look good too - just got to pop the new pads in and bleed them now.
