Pcm issue

Postby Donka64 » Sat Jun 17, 2023 7:30 pm

Hello
Do any members have advice on an issue I have with my 2014 transit 330. I will try upload the rac report but basically I was driving it and it seemed to try to stall while coming off the motorway. Lost power and traction control lights came on. Got it home but on going back to it a couple of minutes later it wont start. No crank. Rac said my pcm needs replacing as it's not reading anything. He couldn't delete any codes. Any good auto Electricians on Merseyside and will it cost me an arm and leg. Literally just bought it but dont believe previous owner knew anything. Amy help please. Like I say will try upload report.

Hi on behalf the forum warm welcome. I'm not a regular (more of a troller). Others might have more to post.
If you've just bought it, might been going on the blink for while and getting worse, the previous owner likely never volunteer info. I mention this because there could be just a wiring scraping somewhere, after some modification ie. GPS tracker or a repair.

Looking at the RAC list, doesn't look that bad. All of the modules themselves (lost comms) can't have all failed simultaneously each one. Since that's just about impossible also strongly suggests the PCM module is fine. Often in roadside recovery situation the guy is under pressure to quote a scapegoat, in this case it seems to me the PCM was chosen.

This vehicle has a multi-drop communications network that links all the systems toegther. It's probably just a wiring harness fault, hidden somewhere that's happened after an service or modification intervention. Vehicle electrical Speciallist to diagnose.

Replace the ignition switch contactor block before doing anything else, they are ~ £20 new and a common failure.

:) Having just re-read what they said rings alarm bells about the way Roadside Assistance operates!

If 'deleting the codes' is seriously how to get you going again on your way, then some enterprising company should market an intelligent Dongle that you leave permanently plugged into the Diagnostic Connector which automatically deletes all codes the moment they happen. Then as there's no codes to delete you wouldn't need the RAC! 8)

Hope it's something simple, there's another thread on the forum that had a system wide problem that just turned out to be in the end screws protuding into a section of wiring harness.

Hi everyone.
It seems main eco wasn't signaling to main relay to start engine. A wiring by-pass was done to avoid changing ECU. Thanks to all for your input.
