Hi there can anyone shed some light on this?
I got this number from the back of the engine block where it meets the gearbox under the passenger side.
Embossed 'Ford' Logo then 6C10 6U003 ... Is that the engine number?

No, that will be the actual part number of the block....the engine number will also contain the last 6 or 7 digits of the VIN, it should be "stamped" on the block down by the fuel pump mount.
