Mk 5 Completely dead. Electrical fault?

Hi,

I wonder if anyone has any ideas, I bought a 1997 Mk 5 Auto sleeper camper van a couple of weeks ago and 5 days ago as I was driving the Flasher relay was making a funny noise. So when I got home I pulled the relay and did something which in hindsight might have been stupid. Once I had removed the Flasher Relay I turned on the ignition and everything lit up as normal though I didn't try and start the van. The only weird thing was there was a high pitched electronic single note sound whenever the drivers door was open. Anyway I locked up the van, went inside and ordered a new relay, It took two days to arrive and just before I went to install it I tried the key again and there was nothing there, nothing at all. I installed the flasher relay and still dead. I thought flat battery so went to charge it with my battery charger but the charger refused to charge the battery. I took the battery off thinking the battery had died but once I removed it I re-hooked up the charger and it not only tried to charge it but within about 5 seconds was saying it was fully charged. I reinstalled the battery but still nothing when I turn the key.

So does anyone have any ideas of what I need to do to fix this please, FYI I am on the Fylde coast of Lancashire and am not very technical.

I feel somewhat of an idiot, I trusted my battery charger, chatting to a mate he suggested just try a different battery just in case and straight away that sorted the problem, my battery charger lied to me and my battery was kaput!

Are you sure it was the flasher relay that was making the noise ???? I would check all the earth cables first especially the one from chassis to engine
