Third fixing on RHD smiley headlamp

Postby npjrogers » Wed Jun 05, 2024 10:57 am

I am trying to remove my right headlamp on my 96 smiley. It seems there is supposed to be 2 bolts and a nut.. mine has three 10m bolts, the one next to the indicator should be a nut (according to Hayes) it appears to be a bolt into a captive fixing. The plastic headlight lug which should be loose has stuck to the captive fixing, Anyone been here and got the tee shirt on this one please. Any advice welcome. Thanks

Ok.. after some research I discovered that the fixing is captive to the headlamp plastic.. you have to unbolt it from behind the headlight and behind the body.. it’s very tight between the battery so slow and steady will fix the problem..hope this discovery helps someone..back to work now

And finally the job is done.. there is no need to touch the nut behind the body panel. It should be loose enough to let the front bit (the end that is screwed into the plastic of the headlamp) turn and unscrew out of the plastic. If necessary put a lock nut or another nut (2 in all) onto the existing bolt… this will allow you to turn the bolt without loosening the nut… take the three simple bolts out leave the one that is screwed into plastic till last. This will allow the bolt to unscrew from the plastic.
Good luck people..
