Bosch vp30 edc

Postby Dave Deeda » Fri Jul 12, 2024 2:34 pm

Hi, my van has been at the garage for a month..2.4 duratorq 2004
Cutting a long story short, after trying to find the root of electrical issue, testing everything ( ecu checked and OK), they are telling me the issue is with the pump.
Current getting to pump, but not when key turned to crank.
I have read many other threads on here talking about getting the edc repaired ( online places will do it for £50.
The garage is saying they want to get a virginised pump and replace the whole thing. This will cost about £300.
Garage also saying getting the edc off is difficult because of access.
I'm thinking, then take the whole pump off and then take the edc off to send off and see if it can be repaired for £50 rather than get a whole new pump.
So what I would greatly appreciate some advice/knowledge on is...does that seem possible that it is the edc rather than the actual pump? (Problem arose out of an electrical issue rather than apparent mechanical )
Secondly is it possible to get the edc off separately ,or better to take the whole pump off ?I'm not sure why the garage is reluctant to follow my suggestion of the edc repair.
Thirdly if edc is repaired, does it have to be reprogrammed to the van/ pump again ?
Many thanks, I'd love to get my van back on the road so I can finally have some sort of summer

Garage , looking are after themselves ..they don't know if EDC or pump ......so replace both at your expense, so does not matter..think that's how most would act.
Perhaps they think that if they take off the edc ...they know pump has to come off ....they know that why replace one ,, when the other can fail soon after

The people here taking the EDC off are home DIY'ers, where time is free.

so that's your answer:
Garages .. dont take risks
DIY'ers do

Thanks Mark, yes that makes sense..
So do you have to take the pump off to take off the Edc ? On the sites that repair the transistors in the edc, they don't mention it, they just say take out the 8 bolts retaining it, plus snip the 4 wires .
If the garage won't do it I might do it myself..

i don't know as i have don't have one ..but it would be different accessing it depending on if FWD or RWD .

So you better mention that before the answers come along.

In his original post he mentions 2.4...so that would mean it's a RWD. And being a VP-30 pump, it would have to be a 75 or 90ps engine.

Ok, thanks, so this info informs me that I have the 2.4 Tddi 2004 with a rotary mechanical pump. bosch v30
Yes it's rear wheel drive.
So can the EDU be taken off the pump with the pump on the van . Is it fairly straightforward taking the whole pump off,in which case I just remove the whole pump ?

TDCi is a totally different animal, they use the Delphi fuel system whereas the TDDi uses Bosch.

RWD TDCi is 135ps and the FWD is 125ps. Nothing in the fuel system is really interchangable with the TDDi machines apart from maybe the tank and a few of the lines.

Ok, thanks, so that seems to simplify it..that on the bosch vp30 which my 2.4 van undoubtedly has, the EDc unit can't be taken off and repaired separately for £50 ,and a new pump it is, for £500 +...didn't really want a holiday this year anyway
