22 plate ford transit box van Front brake replacement

Hi I am trying to change the front disc and pads on my transit box van, I'm struggling to remove what I believe to be the wheel spacer, is there any particular way to remove the it or is it just a case of being persistent with a hammer. Thank you in advance
