Imobaliser is flashing and vehicle won't start

Postby Tcz6191 » Mon Sep 09, 2024 1:14 pm

What would be a reasonably priced obd reader that will read and clear fault codes for a 2001 ford transit 2.4 durotec motor home.
And can anyone recommend a mobile ford tech in West Sussex .
Thanks

Forscan and one of their recommended cables. Forscan is "free" to download onto a windows laptop and the cables are cheap enough. Don't be tempted to get the WiFi or Bluetooth units...we've found them to be a bit flakey and drop out if there's a lot of stray frequencies floating around the area.

Just be aware that Forscan will indeed read and can erase fault codes etc, (plus a lot more)...but cannot physically fix the fault...you need to do that.

If you can tell us what the actual fault codes are....there's some very clever experienced chaps on here who can help diagnose the issue and point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the prompt reply, however I'm not good with computers and only have a very slow laptop and was thinking more of a self contained unit such as the icarsoft or the topdon ad500 or something recommend.
Best regards Graham

its been said here, only forscan will diagnose an older van properly because it will not be obd compliant.

not sure of the dates that they became obd compliant at 2001 yours could be non obd .. just saying ..

What our metalworker said....Mk6 Transits are "NOT" OBD-II compliant...they are EOBD....so 99% of the newer readers won't work....which is why we use Forscan....and it will work on old laptops too...I had it installed on an old Widows XP machine years ago and it worked fine.

The immobiliser LED is blinking rapidly?

If you wait 1 minute - it will stop and start blinking in a coded sequence - which will give you a 2 digit immobiliser fault code.

[Rapid Blinking] [Long Pause] *Blink* *Blink* *Blink* [Short Pause] *Blink* *Blink* - which will then repeat itself lots of times

Is code 32 - which is a lack of communication between PATS and ECU (its just an example as its one I know off hand)

With this code we can prehaps offer more advice :)

Hi thanks for your reply, I've just been to check the code got in the van and it didn't blink and it started ok, however I did check the code previously and it was 32 or 23 I can't remember which but was told it could be the fuel pump.
I will be purchasing a For scan but hopefully I won't have to bother you again, we shall see.
Thank you all for your help.
Best regards, Graham.

Ps this issue has been ongoing for about a month. So I'm not holding my breath.

Well it's been running for 30 minutes and I've restarted it 3 or 4 times but it's flashing the dash light all the time if I put it in gear it stops flashing for a few seconds so I've read the code again and it's now flashing 2 then 4 so 24 what does 24 mean?

24 isn't on my list! I would copy and paste it over but its on another device.

I would suggest forscan as others above have advised

You don't have to "buy" Forscan...it's free to download onto a windows lappy....you only need to "buy" one of their compatible cables.

Yes that's what I meant I've ordered the cable you sent the link for . I've downloaded Forscan but I need to find out how to put the code in , I've got the 2 month license but can't seem to get it to transfer to the app.
