What power is my transit?

Postby Harvy » Tue Oct 08, 2024 7:58 am

The badge in the back says 115 but I was looking at the logbook this morning and it says 140. Are there any discernible differences between the 2.4 litre power levels or is it all in the software in the Ecu? Where would I find the engine number/code.

Thanks.

My mk 6 135 jumbo had some work done at Ford and it came up as a 115 on the invoice when I questioned it they said they often come up wrong don’t worry.

Fair enough. So is it all just software changes for the different power levels, or are there any physical differences? Do I believe a badge on a 14 year old van or the V5? :D

I think from what I’ve read on here the 140 has oil jets to cool the pistons but some of the lower power engines don’t have them

No, not just software changes...the 2.4 140 H9FB engine is a bit different to the 100 PHFA & 115 JXFA engines. Has different injectors, different turbo, the earlier 2.4 140's, (pre 25th Oct 2010 build date), also have a second oil filter in the rocker cover. The 115 & 140 come from the factory with a 6 speed MT-82 gearbox too. Do you have an electronic turbo or the old type wastegate unit..?? Do you have the centrifugal oil filter in the rocker cover..??

"ALL" the Mk7 2.4's have the oil jets under the pistons..

Excellent information thanks. I’ll try some answers. I’ve not had a good look at the turbo yet but from memory it looked very small rusty and mounted/was part of the exhaust manifold. I’ll get some photos next time I’m with the van. Mine is definitely a 6 speed box.

My rocker cover looks like this,

Not like this,

I’m assuming that makes it a 115 as the vans date of first registration is 17 of May 2010. Next time I’m with the van I’ll find the engine plate too and see what that says once I’ve cleaned the grime of it!

Thanks for your help

Putting my vin into catcar.info and a random vin decoder comes up with it being a 140ps puma engine. I wonder if it has had an engine change at some point…

The bottom pic is a 140 as it has the second filter in the rocker cover and the VNT turbo.

The later 2.4 140 doesn't have the second filter as it has a 10L sump.

The engine number is usually the last several digits of the VIN.
