2018 Transit 350 Engine Failure Compensation?

Postby Kilmo » Thu Oct 17, 2024 11:43 am

Hi All

Looking for advice as feeling totally done over by Ford. We invested a substantial amount (all) of our savings in a work van in 2022. We purchased a used 2018 Ford Transit 350 Crew Van from a Ford main dealer. We have a full Ford service history, and have in fact had it serviced more times than they suggest necessary. In August this year 2 injectors failed. We had it towed to a Ford garage where they replaced the injectors but then discovered the damage was more severe, cylinder head was removed and damage seen to lining, they declared the engine a right off. Quoted price for replacing is circa £9k. The van is 6 years old and has done 54000 miles. Ford 'good will' have offered zero compensation towards replacement. The garage are invoicing us £1400 for 'work carried out so far'. I feel like a van of this age and milage, that has been maintained well and has full Ford service history shouldn't be failing should it?! This potentially equals the end of our family business, and our Christmas, as the repair costs are more than we have in the bank. Does anyone have any recommendations of another route we can go down to try to claim any compensation from Ford? The effect this is having on my family is not good at all. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice is really appreciated. Thanks

Seem to remember an oil dilution recall...
Think this is what you should focus on, once you have the info and knowledge about this, then it may help you win against them.

From what i remember reading here, some ecoblues had this oil dilution problem ...the mixture was set to be deliberately rich to assist in the DPF regeneration...if vehicle was used for short trips the van would try to regenerate many times and fail ..the consequences was oil dilution and there was a recall.

as diluted oi does not lubricate and wears the bores

they blamed some ecoblue belt failures on this

and injector failure can cause piston damage, which would also bugger the bores

oh ....and serviced more times than ford suggests , says to me that oil quality sensor has been reporting oil dilution

others, i hope, will fill you in on all other details about this.
