crank pulley, 3 bolt torque.

Postby deeker » Fri Oct 25, 2024 7:54 am

I have a 2013 Transit Custom 2.2 and the rubber insert on the crank pulley broke. Fortunately this happened a few miles from home, so after removing belts and broken bits i was able to nurse it home. I eventually managed to unscrew the old retaining bolts and ask if anyone knows the tightening sequence for the new bolts. Also, do they need locktite? Alternatively, is this info in the Haynes manual or is there a safe website to buy a transit custom service manual.

many thanks

when asking for the tightening sequence i mean the torque setting.

A similar 3 bolt crank pulley on transit mk 7 seems to be 45Nm plus 120 degrees.

thanks

I've only ever rattled them up with impact gun and gave never had a problem even reusing old bolts with no thread lock

The Haynes video shows this as easy job on the 2L, but i have the 2.2 and i've eventually found a Turkish video that shows this job. It shows removing the engine mount (done) and then removing the tensioner. Is that the only way the new belt can be fitted? Swinging the tensioner into the off position does not look to give enough space to slide the belt behind and removing the tensioner looks really difficult as it is at the back of the engine with almost no space. I'd really appreciate if someone can confirm the correct way to do this. thanks.

On almost all front wheel drive cars and vans ..you have to remove the engine mount to change the cam, belt, it is also possible with the mount removed to tilt the engine to various positions to gain better access.

all the best.mark

Thanks Mark, your advise to move engine to make space helped a lot. Changing tensioner needed a long arm to stretch in from behind the wheel arch. Got new kit fitted and running smooth again. Now need to sort the brakes and track rods.
