FWD 2.2 Transit 2014..knocking noise on acceleration

Postby Ellisb911 » Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:15 pm

Please can someone help with my ongoing problem with my 2014 FWD Transit.2.2. Started a while back when it failed the MOT on a split rubber boot on the driverside driveshaft. I bought a complete aftermarket driveshaft & had a mechanic fit it. Then , from day one, it developed a knocking noise on acceleration & deceleration. Mechanic said it was a faulty driveshaft, so I got it exchanged ,had the 2nd driveshaft fitted but exactly the same, still knocking. I've put up with it for about 6 months but decided it was really annoying, so I bought a Febri-Bilstein driveshaft thinking a good quality name, so will be a better quality part. Had it fitted & still knocking,I can't believe although they are all after market parts all 3 of them are all faulty?? This knocking wasnt there untill the original driveshaft was changed. One mechanic said the only way to solve it is to buy a genuine Ford driveshaft at nearly £800 , which i would do if i was confident it would solve the problem. I've had 2 mechanics look at the van, also changed the bottom gearbox insulator mount but knocking is still there. Someone has now said it could be the rubber 'donut ' fitted that is the problem, I wasn't aware a FWD vehicle had a rubber 'donut' fitted ,can someone confirm if or not it does? Or please any other help,I'm at a loss as to what's causing this knocking & also at certain revs there seems to be vibration thru the cab. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

my next move would be to change the wheel bearing on the affected side.

something else ---- there is always the chance that you are ordering the wrong drive shaft each and every time.

are you also "Kevbb" by any chance?

other things

Buckled wheel
Bad tyre

Thanks for the reply, I will check the wheel bearing. Wheels & tyres are all fine. No I'm not Kevb.

This thread:

viewtopic.php?f=64&t=230047&p=1856090&hilit=drive+shaft#p1856090

and that's all i can add to this actual thread- cause i'm thinking its going the same way ..same outcome.

honest -recently here there have been a few threads with people changing drive shafts and still having problems ...and if they don't come back and share the outcome, or if sorted, well we never find out.

Borg and Beck are my Favoured after market supplier/ manufacturer.

Note, i say manufacturer ..not re-conditioner or re-manufacturer or company that buys chinese parts and labels them as their own.

Have you tried the opposite driveshaft ??
Mk7 fwd have a strange thing that happens, I've had it with wheelbearing noise and drive shaft noise on several transits that seem to be from one side but is actually from the opposite side
