Mk7 oil light and rattle.

Started my mk7 yesterday and the engine oil light came on and it had a top end rattle. I think I let my oil get too low and it may have either blocked the oil filter or the gauze/mesh from the pickup pipe. Would I be correct in that assumption?
Given the time of year I can’t afford to get it to a garage and I’m really hoping g it’s a quick fix. Anyone got any ideas?

If the oil level is ok and oil light is on and you have a rattle there will be no easy fix I believe that the mk 7 did have a weak oil pump problem and had a recall yours may have missed it.

Was euro 5s that had recall for oil pumps 12yrs back
Is there no oil in it ? or another problem like oil that resembles treacle ? Oil pick up pipe blocked ? All caused by lack of maintenance or problem with pump chain broke , if itsbeen running with oil light on and rattling it's probably too late
