USB ports staying on

Postby Johnftc » Sat Dec 28, 2024 9:52 am

I have just got a new Transit Custom Sport which has USB charging ports everywhere. There is actually one at the top of the windscreen in the plastic trim that hides all the wiper and headlight sensors which I imagine is for a dash cam. I can’t imagine anything else it could be used for. My question is, how long does it take these USB ports and cig lighter socket to turn off. I’ve fitted the dash cam and all works as it should but after I have locked the van and set the alarm etc the dash cam stays on. I actually left it half an hour then went back outside to the van and the dash was still on. I have turned it off on the power button as I don’t want it to drain the battery. The dash cam starts up by itself once the van is started. I have googled this and get a range of answers from 10 mins to 30 mins for the power to go off. Some say it doesn’t go from at all. I have emailed the sales guy I got the van from and he says he will ask a ford tech but I’m still waiting. Thanks for any replies.

I don't have a new Custom Sport, but by way of comparison, the charging ports on my Focus stay live for about 30-45 minutes. If you unlock and access the van, they will power up again for a similar time.

I think you'll find that the BCM will shut them down sooner if your battery is low on charge.

Thanks for that. I’m assuming this time limit can’t be changed. Seems silly that the ports stay live at all once ignition is off. With my old Peugeot Expert the cig lighter and USBs went off straight away when ignition turned off.

I think there was a post on here that you could change the timing of it shutting off I think it could be done with FORscan but it was for a early mk8 or custom
