Spring rate colour codes...

Postby Radiofence » Thu Jan 30, 2025 11:27 am

I'm looking for a spring rate chart by ford, for the colours on the spring (eg yellow or red blob etc) and the colour circles (pink/yellow) on the shock absorbers.

For the spring rate denoted by the colour blob on them and also (if possible) the shock absorber speed from the colour circle on the earlier ones.

For what Transit..??....They go back to 1965. Give us a clue.

Some model Transits have dozens of springs available depending on type & weight class etc...

In the UK, Ford road springs typically have a colour coding system where the colour of the spring directly corresponds to the specific part number and load rating of the spring, allowing for easy identification when selecting a replacement part; however, to accurately determine the correct colour for your Ford vehicle, you should always consult your vehicle's service manual or contact a Ford dealership as the colour coding can vary depending on the car model and year.
Key points about Ford road spring colour coding:
Specific to each vehicle:
The colour coding on Ford springs is not universal and will differ based on the car model and its specific spring requirements.
Identifying the correct spring:
By matching the colour of the existing spring to the colour code on a parts catalogue, you can ensure you are selecting the correct replacement spring.
Consult a dealer or manual:
For accurate information on the colour coding for your specific Ford vehicle, always refer to your vehicle's service manual or contact a Ford dealership.

Put your vin into catcar website and navigate to the suspension section
It won't give your specific vehicle springs but it will show all the options. And part numbers.

This is why it's difficult to swap single springs from one van to another, they may look the same but could be radically different. Best to replace them as a pair from a reputable spring dealer, they'll know what is suitable for any particular vehicle.

Had a guy on bookface tell me a single leaf spring was heavy duty.....I told him to fit it to a loaded tipper or recovery vehicle and get back to us, Transits can have up to four leaf springs fitted depending on the application. A small 260 SWB FWD can have a single leaf spring fitted, my 2008 T350 LWB also has a single leaf spring...are they compatible..?? Obviously not with the 900kg difference in load capacity.

Thanks for the replies. Even on that car bits site, it has the same shock absorber and spring from 270 up to 300 which is confusing as surely there must be a difference.
