MK7 2.2 Euro 5 FWD Engine - Bang - Help....please

Postby DrGonzoMIA » Thu May 01, 2025 4:07 pm

Hi all. Need some advice on this please. Recently came back from France. Engine wouldnt start hot. Though it was starter. Oil light came on once running again. But no overheating. Got to Dover and tried nursing it to the closest retail park to call AA. But unfortunately didn't make it. No power, started with a quiet rattle and ground to a halt.

Toom to local garage who said timing chain possibly jumped. And said no compression. Which I'm gutted at as it was changed no more than 6 months back with all new, genuine parts.
I'm investigating more myself now and here is what I've found.

Two right injectors a tad oily
When van up in air the wheels turn fairly freely in gear ? Is that not odd ?!
Emptied oil and see no sign of metal, filings or crap. Oil is cleaned and was changed before trip
Took Oil filter out. Was oil in it but not spilling out like I'd expect. Can't see any damage or debris on filter.
Took sum off. All looks clean, oil pump looks visibly OK and tension on chain.
Again. No debris or any kind of crap in oil pan.

What else can I check please ? I'm weighing up my options of new engine, scrap it. Or break it.

I expected to see visible damage or debris in oil if chain had jumped and parts collided ?

Cheers all in advance

In fact, after closer inspection in the oil pan I've found quite a lot of metal shavings...me thinks that is that. Possible bearings failed ?

Vans cost me about 7k to buy and put new everything on in last year so this is a bitter pill to swallow.... Can't really justify prices people are asking for used engines though. Bo selecta

So you continued to drive it with the oil light on..?? One would think that may be a clue as to why you should not drive it.

Euro-5's are well known for having a chocolate oil pump.

More than likely you have killed it...torched big end and/or main crank bearings.
