Turbo Stuck High, Open, Low

Postby Nondisclosed » Fri May 16, 2025 2:31 pm

Hello fine people,

I have a 2.2 2014 Custom throwing up turbo DTCs. Drive fantastic initially an after a few miles loses umph and throws up warning lights. Had a recon turbo fitted around 18 months - 2 years back. Actuator moves on start up and off. I know there is a few avenues to pursue, namely, solenoids, vacuum hoses, egr or even the turbo itself. Before I reluctantly go back to the garage, is there any ideas or what I could pin point before I shell out more mechanic cash on it.

Example DTC's are
P2599:00-26
and also others related to 'OPEN' & Low but I didn't to snapshot them before they went off after I parked up.

Regards,

So potentially could still be an egr issue even though its showing turbo? From what I understand the actuator was replaced yes.

On some 2.2s there is a problem where the boost hose rubs on bolt head ..and a hole is made in it ..somewhere near the alternator.

Your right in the money there Mark, exactly where you said the bolt had worn hole through the braided sleeve and feels like it's done some damage to the hose aswell. Not taken it off yet to inspect but thanks. Is there some that can be done to protect it from that bolt? Or is it just a case of replacing it if it happens again?

No one has talked about how they fixed it, other than replacing.

So you can then tie it out of the way or something with tie-wraps

i had holes in my connect rubber pipe from air box to turbo

i took it off ,, scrubbed it clean in the sink .. and used upol tiger seal to fix it.

You could do the same with re-enforced tiger seal ..with something like this.

https://www.allplas.co.uk/acatalog/PVC- ... DLEALw_wcB

or plasterboard scrim stuff etc

i already had the tiger seal that i was using on another job ,..its bit pricey at £9 a tube

Much appreciated, well a replacement hose came today. It was less than £20 so let's see if it fixes the issue. Fingers crossed

The new pipe has a mesh coating on and I'm guessing, is moulded slightly differently as its not as close to the bolt any more.

So I either need some consoling or some reassurance, depending on the consensus of the forum

Replaced the said hose and noticed some oil in the hose. Immediately thought the worst, however after reading around, I've seen its sometimes normal to have a little bit. What really concerned me though was that it felt like there was sand in the residue. When I did a little digging online, I noticed it could be remnants from the previous dead turbo? Anyway, I'm not best pleased about it. How concerned should I be about it? I have read a mixed bag of opinions and conclusions. Could driving with that vacuum leak have caused damage to the new turbo? I really want to take it out for a spin but I'm reluctant to with the latest discovery

Have a look at the large rubber convoluted air pipe thing going from air box to turbo ..this could have splits in it ..this would not effect performance ..but could let in dust and grit

The boost pipes - it's common to have oil in them.may be a pile in the intercooler as well ..cleaning these, is or should be part of a service .

The pipe marks on about can also get a hole rubbed into in from the schrader valve that bleeds the fuel line. Plus there is an appendix of a pipe that runs to the breather system for the engine. The metal clip might be undone and it not a tight fit.

Plus the airbox clips might be worn so the filter air seal isn't squished well.

My pipe had lots of oil. I'd not worry personally about oil.

My old vivaro ate a turbo once. There was bits of metal all through the pipes, but that always started on the button and ran fine.

So I've whipped the intercooler off to give it a good clean and then I'll inspect the pipe from air box to turbo. To be fair, when I was feeling around the turbo a bit back I did notice at high temperatures, the point at which it connects to the turbo seemed almost like it was degrading, though I didn't take it off to give it a thorough inspection. It's next on the agenda. One thing I did noticed was at the intake side of the air box, the housing has some slight damage, but I didn't think to much about it at the time. I'll take a picture when I get chance and see if you think it's any cause for concern.
