2021 Battery swap- no manuals/codes with van

Postby Mongoose » Fri May 23, 2025 4:24 pm

Hi.
My 2021 Transit custom diesel needs a new battery.
It's a single battery and needs changing.
I can't seem to find definitive answer.
Can I just buy the correct battery, remove the old one and fit new without issues.?
Will I need any codes etc for the radio etc, and will I loose any info and does it need anything doing via Forscan etc?
Thanks!

If it's a standard radio, you'll need the code for it...you'll also need to reset the clock...apart from that, no issue. I use a small 12v motorcyle battery connected to the jump points under the bonnet to keep the systems alive whilst you swap out the old main battery. I've even read of people using little 9v batteries to do the same, although I've not done this myself..

No code required on later vehicles (2011 onwards maybe) but you may possibly lose radio settings (presets, bass, treble, etc). There is a routine to reset the battery monitoring system (BMS) which is described on here somewhere, but I don't think it's essential to do it.

I've found the info from another thread:

After you’ve replaced the battery.
Sit in van, turn ignition on.
Flash main beam 5 times,
Press brake pedal 3 times.
Wait, and watch the battery warning light, it should flash to confirm reset.
