Found a bolt

Postby FDN850HU » Sun Jun 22, 2025 6:32 pm

Hi members, while cleaning the front crossmember, i came across this bolt. Pretty distorted, worn etc, could anyone recognise this thing, is it genuine Ford or something else? My 96 2.5di bus is just after a new clutch, rear main oil seal and other surgeries, i hope it does not belong to any of these parts (its m6 threading). Tia

The only M6 bolts I can think of in that area are the 2 that hold the sandwich plate at the bottom of the bellhousing - with are a PITA and most people leave out anyway.

The bolts that hold the oil seal housing in may also be M6 - but there are lots of them so one wouldn't be a worry to me. I think they are M8 though (and flanged).

I wouldn't get worried about it.

Thanks all of you. Lots of dirt came out from the crossmember, also pebbles, it might have been there for long time. I ve got a sandwich plate, what is its function? Thanks

Rocker bolts are m6 aren't they?

Gravity dictates something fumbled at the the top will end off somewhere lower down.
