Mk7 Dual Battery Relay won’t disconnect

Postby OfficiallyColin » Wed Jul 23, 2025 3:56 pm

Mk7 jumbo RWD 2.4td 6 speed manual.
Both batteries are good.
The relay seems to be connected and won’t disconnect when I turn off the engine.
There is no audible click when I turn the ignition on or off and I have continuity across both batteries so I’m guessing they’re connected by the relay.

Any tips for things to check first before I replace it?
I have no idea what the hell I’m doing.

I see they are on ebay at a price between £40 and £60

130 on there
27 sold in the last couple of months, so must be common to fail

lot of amps at 190A ..so imagine common for the contact points to stick together.

you could prise it open and look inside

oh yeah .. forgot ... test draw on the starter .. should be 70-90 amps max ... if more, could be the reason this relay is possibly fused together inside ... use clip on ammeter on the starter cable..
