Mk 7 Knocking Noise Under Cab - Matches Revs

Postby MattyFox » Wed Aug 06, 2025 5:02 pm

Hello all,

MK 7 TRANSIT 2.2 TDCI RWD 2013 - 120,000 miles

I'm getting some knocking noise coming from under the cab area it sounds like but I cant pin point it even from under the van. It is a dull knock and it matches the rpm of the van. It doesn't come straight from a cold start but normally once I get back home and park up I can hear it going.

Any advice on what it could be would be brilliant.

Here is a video with the knock - hopefully you can hear it okay:

Thank you in advance :D

metalworker0 - the van is stationary mate

knobby1 - thanks for the pointer. Although the noise is still there when clutch is pressed. Could it still be the issue then?

Thanks

Answer number 2 then , common failure on most of these vans is crankshaft pulley damper assembly .. some have a lump of rubber in the middle that breaks up after a period of time ... check this out first.

rubber is stiff when cold and becomes more pliable when it warms up .. is how i came about this answer - plus the fact the video when played at full vol on my pc is not very loud .. and not very metallic sounding.

He did say the noise was still present when the "clutch is pressed"..!
