Watch - drive shaft centre bearing clamp fwd Transits

Postby metalworker0 » Fri Feb 06, 2026 6:22 pm

Good Info. about the One Use Clamp, this info probably many of you guys plus me didn't know about!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXnGESscDiU

i didn't even realise this was a problem

i will be ordering one of these clamps, to Keep in stock, they are quite cheap even for genuine ford £5 or £6.. should i have to do a clutch or change a drive shaft .. as too late then when you are right on top of the job or remember it even

applies to all front wheel drive transits as far as i know

all the best.mark

My suspicion is that the shaft was not fully home when the clamp was installed, more than likely with some form of impact wrench or ratchet and caused the clamp to stretch and deform then once driving and being loose it's rattled it's merry heart out till it's walked off the job.

I'd reckon there's countless FWD fords out there running original brackets that will perform and never fail as the video shows.

Not that it's not good practice to change these and for the cost that you state for them.

I don't think I'd start a panic over it, if there's a shaft been changed and it's not giving any issues.

It's just Another reason a RWD is better

I have, and have had, many FWD Fords, a few of which have done well over 200k miles, and are still going, and I can truthfully say that I've never had this problem, or any other problem with the transmissions or driveshafts.

I have, however, had the odd problem with propshafts, and diffs, on the RWD's

Oh the blasphemy.... I've never had more than my fair share of prop bearings, UJs, diff gears all fail but never had an intermediate drive shaft support bearing fail on a RWD
