How to turn off Tow Haul with no button

Postby Lemongrassdog » Tue May 26, 2026 6:35 pm

Hi,

I just bought a 2018 Ford Transit t150 XLT. Today was my third day driving it.
I was coasting down a hill and the Tow Haul light came on, and I could feel some resistance, like Brake Assist when towing a trailer. Thing is, I wasn't towing anything, and now I can't get Tow mode to turn off. There is NO Tow button!
I've turned it off and let it sit for an hour, but it's still on. I have looked all over the console and the menu options, and there is nothing Tow related. Can anyone help please?
Thanks
Alison

from the owners manual .

ive highlighted .. important parts

Tow/Haul Warning Lamp
E161509
It illuminates when you switch
the system on.
If it flashes when the engine is
running this indicates a malfunction and
could lead to transmission damage that
may not be covered by the vehicle
Warranty. Have your vehicle checked as
soon as possible.

The button

To activate tow/haul, press the
button near the gearshift lever
once. The TOW HAUL indicator
light illuminates in the instrument cluster.

The tow/haul feature:
• Delays upshifts to reduce the frequency
of transmission shifting.
• Provides engine braking in all forward
gears, which will slow your vehicle and
assist you in controlling your vehicle
when descending a grade.
• Depending on driving conditions and
load conditions, may downshift the
transmission, slow your vehicle and
control your vehicle speed when
descending a hill, without pressing the
accelerator pedal. The amount of
downshift braking provided will vary
based upon the amount the brake
pedal is pressed.
The tow/haul feature improves
transmission operation when towing a
trailer or a heavy load. All transmission
gear ranges are available when using
tow/haul.

To deactivate the tow/haul feature and
return to normal driving mode, press the
button near the gearshift lever twice. The
TOW HAUL light will deactivate. Tow/haul
also deactivates when you power down
your vehicle.
